In September 1997 I closed my law practice and returned to a career in the visual arts that I’d abandoned many years before. I studied drawing and painting at The Corcoran College of Art in Washington, DC and printmaking at the Provincetown Art League and Alexandria Art League.
Since returning to the arts I have had a number of one-person exhibitions and been involved in many group exhibits. I have been a member of the Fairfax Art League, Alexandria Art League and, currently The Rehoboth Art League. I have had pieces juried into many exhibitions including the Corcoran School of Art Alumni exhibition, the Art League at the Torpedo Factory and the Reston Art League shows. Since moving to Delaware, I have exhibited in a number of local venues on the Eastern Shore. My principal mediums are etching and monotypes. I am currently represented by Washington Printmakers Gallery in Silver Spring, a gallery that specializes in fine art hand pulled original prints.
I have been significantly affected by the graphic works of Kathe Kollwitz and Leonard Baskin. Through the power and exactness of line and tone, they reach into and share with us the depths of the human experience. The Impressionists, including American impressionists such as Ambrose Webster and Allen Tucker, use color, depth, volume, tone and shapes to produce similarly intense reflections of the natural universe.
Both the complexities of human kind and those of nature are endlessly fascinating to me. I try to explore these things in my own work. My goal is to communicate the intensity of my views and feelings to an audience while at the same time creating a work that is intrinsically balanced and beautiful. To explore the essence of my subject matter, whether it is joyful and brilliant or tragic and somber and to reach my audience on both an intellectual and visceral levels is my greatest challenge.
